    A company wellness and safety program is a crucial feature for controlling worker’s compensation costs.  In order for such an initiative to be effective, it must be driven from the top.  A leadership driven initiative will ensure employee buy-in, and employee buy-in is what truly makes any wellness and safety program a success.

    The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health conducted a meta-analysis of 15 studies of the impact of workplace wellness and safety programs.  They found that such programs produced a number of positive outcomes to the benefit of both employees and organizations.  A few of the organizational benefits included reduced absenteeism and sick days, positive ROI, increased productivity, and fewer accidents.

    A wellness and safety program, successfully run, is a win-win for employees and leaders.  First of all, it protects the health, safety, and well-being your most important asset, your employees.  Second, such programs are proven to pay dividends in the form of reduced worker’s compensation claims.  For these reasons, safety and wellness are issues that need to be constantly addressed and monitored by company leaders.  The impact to both safety and savings make employee well-being worthy of constant attention from top leadership.
